Colossians 1:15-20 (NRSV), John 10:22-30(NRSV), Colossians 2:1-3 (NRSV)

Who is this Jesus we praise?

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation; for in him all things in heaven and on earth were created, things visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or powers—all things have been created through him and for him. He himself is before all things, and in him all things hold together. He is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that he might come to have first place in everything. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him God was pleased to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, by making peace through the blood of his cross.

John 10:22–30 (NRSV)

Jesus Is Rejected by the Jews

22  At that time the festival of the Dedication took place in Jerusalem. It was winter, 23  and Jesus was walking in the temple, in the portico of Solomon. 24  So the Jews gathered around him and said to him, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly.” 25  Jesus answered, “I have told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father’s name testify to me; 26  but you do not believe, because you do not belong to my sheep. 27  My sheep hear my voice. I know them, and they follow me. 28  I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one will snatch them out of my hand. 29  What my Father has given me is greater than all else, and no one can snatch it out of the Father’s hand. 30  The Father and I are one.”

Colossians 2:1–3 (NRSV)

For I want you to know how much I am struggling for you, and for those in Laodicea, and for all who have not seen me face to face. 2  I want their hearts to be encouraged and united in love, so that they may have all the riches of assured understanding and have the knowledge of God’s mystery, that is, Christ himself, 3  in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
